The development objective of the Geothermal Resource Risk Mitigation Project for Nicaragua is to help confirm resources and speed-up geothermal development in the field by mitigating risks and leveraging funds through a PPP arrangement. Some of the negative impacts and mitigation measures include: (1) prepare and implement a biodiversity management and action plan (BMAP); (2) provide support for the reserva natural complejo volcánico san cristobal-casita; (3) implement awareness raising and education for local communities through educational programs; (4) minimize habitat loss and degradation, prohibit off-road driving, reduce dust levels by using water sprays and misting; (5) implement noise reduction measures; (6) protect excavation and trenches and monitor for any trapped wildlife; and (7) install road signs to highlight the risk of collision with animals and limit speed.
