Estimating per capita income for operational purposes (الإنجليزية)

This report provides an overview of the methodological and data issues involved in estimating per capita income for operational purposes. The main conclusion is that the Bank should retain its current Atlas methodology for estimating internationally comparable per capita income for operational purposes. The procedure of updating income thresholds based on international inflation rates should also be continued. Because international comparability of income per capita is affected by differences in quality of national statistics, priority should be placed on enhancing statistical capacity in developing countries. Once national statistics improve, the use of purchasing power parities based gross national income (GNI) estimates should be reconsidered.
